My Sexy Shifter

http://mysexysaturday.blogspot.com/

It's another My Sexy Saturday and this week's theme is My Sexy Shifter. It just screamed show some fur and with that thought in mind I'm sharing a scene from Witch Hunt. Rei, a witch with the power to transform, has run into a pack of werewolves, but one wolf has the power to flip her world upside down. Enjoy!

Witch Hunt snippet:

Aidan rolled over onto his side to face her, propping his head up on his hand. “Show me,” he challenged. He had only seen the transformation of his own kind, and the idea of seeing Rei as a wolf was exciting and new. Seeing Rei’s look of confusion, Aidan said, “Show me your wolf form. Let me hear her howl.”

Rei slowly lifted herself up from the chair. “I don’t know how long I can hold the form,” she admitted quietly. Aidan did not say anything, only watched her intently. He felt the tickling of magic as Rei called it to her. Her eyes drifted closed, and Aidan wondered if she was picturing the white wolf.

Aidan watched mystified as Rei’s clothes melted away, and fur began to blossom in their place. Her face became thinner, longer, and was quickly covered in short fur. When Rei dropped to her hands and knees in the middle of the room, Aidan sat up to watch her more closely.

What Aidan saw sitting there before him was a very powerful, fullgrown female timber wolf. She was smaller than his kind but was large for her kind, appearing well over a hundred pounds. Then there were her eyes. Those deep, engulfing black eyes stared at him confidently.

Aidan slipped his feet off the edge of the couch, sitting up. Remembering how his own kind reacted in their furry form, Aidan gently moved his hand, fingers outstretched, toward her. Rei leaned forward and bumped his palm with her muzzle. “You’re really coherent right now,” Aidan said in amazement. Rei let out a little whine. A smile drifted over Aidan’s lips, and he quickly amended what he had said. “It’s rare for a werewolf to be so coherent at such an early age. I assumed you’d be the same.”

Rei stood up and, showing just how coherent she was, began to spin in a slow circle. Aidan recognized the movement at once. Rei was showing off her appearance for him, asking if he liked what he saw. He was captivated by the sleek look her light-colored fur gave her. Her movements were so graceful and natural. Aidan felt his own wolf stirring and knew that his furrier half liked the image of Rei’s wolf form too.

“You are gorgeous,” he said finally. Rei stopped her spin and faced him again. Her head was held high with pride from his praise. “Let me hear you. I want to know what you sound like.”

What I've Learned from Interactive Fiction

Early in 2015 I had an idea. It was a crazy, no way I could ever pull it off idea, but it took root. This is what I've learned about interactive fiction as a writer and as a reader over this last year.

I grew up reading. I read comic books, novels, short stories, fan fiction, text based RPG's and anything else that could be read. One of the more rare but always fun reads were pick your own adventure novels.

First: It's confusing. Very confusing. I started with an idea and tried to create an outline. My outline turned into a tree of possibilities. That was awesome. All the wonderful ways the story could go, but I quickly learned it's hard to keep track of those branches while writing. I ended up mixing up a few scenes that didn't read well at all. Those are hours of outline tree searching I'll never forget.

Second: It's fulfilling. Normally when I'm telling a story only one outcome is possible, but with interactive fiction I was able to explore different endings, scenes and even character deaths that would have otherwise been just passing fancies. It was nice having outlets of imagination that a single story line doesn't have room for.

Third: It makes a person think differently. At least it made me think differently. I've read a number of these types of books and even just reading them I wonder what if and end up rereading the story trying to find which choices led to which outcomes. Writing it was no different for me. I left my comfort zone of multiple points of views and dove into a single point of view story. That made me hyper aware of the other characters' actions. There was no chance to clarify in the next scene so I had to wonder if their emotions and intentions were coming across clearly.

Finally: It can be a lot of fun. It was fun challenging myself to something different. It was fun looking at the outline so differently. And honestly it was fun being able to add extras that don't normally make it into a story.

While I may not try another interactive fiction piece right away I think I could enjoy playing with the idea in the far far future.

Paranormal Love Wednesday

It's another Paranormal Love Wednesday and I'm here with a peek at two of my favorite witches from the third book the Saving Grace Saga, Fire Hunt. Julia and Edmund have found themselves on opposite sides and now they have to come to terms with who they really are.

Fire Hunt:

Edmund shook the hair from his face again and glared up at her with seething blue eyes. The change in eye color was a telltale sign that he was finally really angry, and Julia had to fight back a victorious grin. His tongue swiped out to catch a swell of blood at the corner of his mouth. “Have I upset you, Detective?”

Leaning in further, Julia almost brushed her cheek against his and whispered, “I’ll see you tonight.”

As she pulled away, he pressed his lips to her cheek, no doubt leaving behind a bloody kiss mark. Just before she slapped him again she saw his grin.

She abruptly turned and headed for the door without looking back. Her hand was reaching for the knob when she heard Edmund say, “I’ll be looking forward to it, babe."

That's the peek for today. Make sure to hop over to Paranormal Love Wednesday to check out other great blog posts!
